Thirteen Things I Believe, 6th

in Life, Memes

One of my favorite NPR segments is “This I Believe“. I always feel inspired after I hear someone read what it is he or she believes whether it’s religious or about how noisy bookstores have become or about peace in the Middle East. I know that this really isn’t the same. This is really thirteen really really mini “This I Believe”’s, but, hey, maybe one of them will get expanded into something I can send into NPR one day. :P

Thirteen Things about J. Lynne

  1. I believe nap time should not stop at kindergarten.
  2. I believe you should always wear your best dress clothes to go to the theater or to God’s house. When did it become acceptable to show up in blue jeans and shorts for a night at the opera or worshiping your Creator?
  3. I believe you should not wear your pajamas to the grocery store no matter how comfortable you think they are or how hip you think you look.
  4. I believe jewelry, perfume, and tattoos should all be worn in moderation; you should always be the object of attention, not your accessories.
  5. I believe cell phones should be banned in restaurants, movie theaters, and anywhere I to pay to enjoy the atmosphere. If I want to hear the latest top 100 hit, I’ll pay iTunes 99¢ for it, I don’t need your high pitched version interrupting my $50 dinner.
  6. I believe I can learn a lot from my cats and dog — like the peacefulness of bird-watching, the blissfulness of sunbathing, and the art of staring at the blank spot on the wall.
  7. I believe I’m only as happy as my dog and cats let me be.
  8. I believe meetings should last no longer than 30 minutes and should not be scheduled before 9am or after 4:30pm or during lunch or nap time.
  9. I believe that normal is a conspiratorial lie created to make most of us feel bad. Same with the body mass index and size 0 clothes.
  10. I believe there’s a special hell for micro-managers and politicians.
  11. I believe in ghosts, but not that aliens have visited our planet.
  12. I believe you should never argue with a bus.
  13. I believe God has many faces and the different religions are just the different ways that people need to worship him, but his message of loving one another seems pretty consistent when not twisted by doctrine and rules added on by “the man”.

Great list, especially 1, 3 and 10.

I am sooo with you on #3!
As to Sam (in LOTR) I agree…I’ve always felt he was the real hero.

WhatWorksForMom August 23, 2007 at 12:38 pm

LOVE LOVE LOVE #1. Totally enjoyed this list!

#12 made me laugh so loud!! Happy TT.

It’s funny because it’s true. :P

Michael Schurmann August 23, 2007 at 1:48 pm

I believe that I agree with most of your beliefs, especially on naptime :-)

The Gal Herself August 23, 2007 at 2:41 pm

Love your list of beliefs, and I may steal it for a future TT. Thanks for putting up the link to mine.

Awesome list. I’m a firm believer in naps, as well. Too bad I had to grow up and join the workforce. I could really use a nap today.

Jenny McB August 23, 2007 at 4:18 pm

I have grown to love naps.
I really like your #13, now if we could just get the rest of the world to accept that God is our God, not mine or yours….just think of the peace.

Thanks for stopping by, so true about the blanket at night, last night the afghan got thrown on also!

Nap time sounds fabulous. This is why I liked Spain. And you are right– accessories shouldn’t be the main focus… you should be.

Journeywoman August 23, 2007 at 4:35 pm

I agree with #5 and #13.

Thanks for visiting my list!

I, too, hate seeing people in jeans and shorts at Sunday morning worship! Happy TT and thanks for stopping by my blog!

L-Squared August 23, 2007 at 5:29 pm

LOL! What a fantastic list! I believe almost all of these things too, especially #6 – a couple of weeks ago I did a TT list of things my dogs have taught me. :-)

Lara August 23, 2007 at 7:27 pm

Completely in agreement — I especially love #1!! Great TT and thanks for stopping by mine!!

Kotabear August 23, 2007 at 7:41 pm

I’m in complete agreement with practically all of these! You seem like an awesome person to get to know and I look forward to doing so.

I am especially in agreement with #’s 2 and 13. I am by far not a follower of the Christian way of belief, but Goddess help me if I don’t get all gussied up any time I’m accompanying my Christian family members or friends to their place of worship! It’s just respectful! And 13 pretty much sums up my views on it. What loving god wouldn’t offer such diverse creations as us humans more than one way to learn and love him?

Nicholas August 23, 2007 at 8:30 pm

Nice list. I agree completely about #5

colleen August 23, 2007 at 8:42 pm

This is a nice format. I believe the more I know, the more I know how much I don’t know.

DK August 23, 2007 at 9:24 pm

Great list, and great to meet you! My dogs want me to be happy all the time; they really don’t approve when I’m not “up” lol. Thanks for dropping by my blog this week and stop by again any time :)
Happy TTing!

I love naps…ahhh! I wish I was taking one right about now. :) I am from a small town and anytime we went to church you put on your best clothes. Most people did not have a lot of money, but they still dressed respectively. I went to a HUGE church here in L.A. and I was shocked at what I seen. Girls in MESH (YES MESH) tops with bright bras on underneath….miniskirts…TO CHURCH! I feel I am pretty open minded about most things, but this was just too much for me.

Frigga August 23, 2007 at 11:34 pm

Very good list, I believe in *many* of those myself.

Happy TT13 :-)

Splash August 23, 2007 at 11:56 pm
