The Warrantless Wiretapping Lie

Well, this is a bit of disturbing news that’ll probably be brushed under the rug since it was published on a Saturday.

Qwest, which was one of the few telecom companies to refuse to participate in the Bush Administration’s warrantless wiretapping program, claims that they were approached in February 2001, 6 months before the September 11th terrorist attacks. The 9/11 attacks have repeatedly been the Bush Administration’s excuse for the need for warrantless wiretapping.

Why would the Bush Administration need to spy on Americans through wiretapping if not to protect us from terrorism? From the sound of it, they began putting that project into place the moment President Bush moved into the White House and 9/11 was just a convenient smoke screen to cover up what they’ve really been up to. What else have they been using 9/11 as an excuse for?
