I used to work in Turkey (for months at a time, only returning home every other weekend or so). Turkish Airways used to lose my luggage just about every time.

Sheryl -- I only wish that they wouldn't make me turn off my iPod during take off and landing. Those are the two times I am truly terrified and having the music would really help ease my tension but sense they started enforcing the no CD player/cassette player/iPod rule during take off and landing, I've really been miserable. I don't see how my iPod could cause a problem with their flight instruments. I really don't think it's projecting anything anywhere; in fact, I have to add a gadget to get it to transmit to my car radio and even that doesn't do it very well. It's hard to be too afraid of Stephen King when you're trying to hear through all the static.

Nicholas (A Gentleman's Domain) recommended this T13 to me...and it's certainly pretty enthralling in a grim way (particularly to someone terrified at many levels of flying)...Wow; I thought I was the queen of unlucky fliers. I do prefer to fly British, I must admit....

We have some GORGEOUS seasonal photos this week, if I do say so myself (no politics for once). They may soothe you.

You are most definitely an unlucky traveler! No doubt you've had trouble in the Atlanta airport. I live in the Atlanta area, so I know first hand how difficult it is to fly in and out of that airport. My mother lives in Tampa, and we've decided that it's just as easy to make the 7.5 hour drive to and from Atlanta, than to risk the possibility of a delayed flight.

I'm one of those people whose fear has gotten much worse since 9/11...in fact, before that, I didn't really fear flying. The odd thing is, I'm not afraid of terrorists...I'm afraid of crashing.
And I hate, hate, hate how the airports and the air crews have changed much for the worse since 9/11.
It's funny how you've had such bad experiences...yet, overall, your fear has actually diminished!
Happy TT.

Heavens! I think we all have air travel stories, but you seem to have more than most! Very entertaining (for us!)

Well, with one good friend living outside of London, my other friends living in New Orleans, my parents living in New Mexico, and myself living in Maine, unfortunately, it's still more efficient time-wise to fly. However, I did look into trying to get to New Mexico via train/bus for Christmas but it was going to take 3 days and they don't allow dogs. :(

A summary of the reasons I no longer fly. Heck, most of the places I'd be most likely to travel to nowadays are where family is, and what with early arrivals, airport (in)security theater (which provides no real security as any professional can tell you, just jobs to folks not smart enough to be able to flip burgers or mop floors for a living) and all the other now normal delays, the places I'd be most likely to travel to? Less time, hassle and expense to simply go by car. Let's see, a five-to-six-hour trip by car (about the distance to our relatives "up north") would be about breaking even, what with driving to airport (early for the (in)security theater crap), "normal" delays and flight time, then travel FROM the airport there to family's place--heck, I could probably drive the trip more quickly and securely--and never have a thought about where my lyggage would or wouldn't show up.

And I could take 'em a case of home-brew without hassle.

Of course, if I were traveling to Europe, it'd be a different story. Ocean liner.

TSA, etc.? Not a chance. I do not put up with fools, gladly or not. The TSA is a sterling example of the line from Shaw's Antony and Cleopatra (the centurion speaks):

"When a stupid man does something he knows is wrong, he always claims it is his duty."

I'd spend the rest of my life in a feddle gummint lockup if I had to attempt enduring a TSA goon's stupidity. Not gonna happen.
